Flush DNS Cache in Windows Xp

In Windows XP it is relatively easy to flush your DNS cache. Question is why would you want to? Well sometimes your DNS cache can get corrupted or your domain has recently been added to our servers and you need to access it immediately and other times your domain has been already established on our server and has had a new IP set for SSL purposes.

In Windows XP:
  1. Click START
  2. CLICK Run (see note below if RUN isnt visible)
  3. In the Run dialog type: cmd this will open a command prompt window
  4. in the command prompt window type: ipconfig /flushdns
  5. hit the enter key
Your dns cache will be flushed and you shuold then check to see if you are getting the Proper IP (IP changes for SSL)
by typing: ping www.yourdomain.com where "yourdomain" is the actual domain name of your site and use .net .org .info.biz if that is the TLD for your domain

NOTE: If you are using the XP style start menus and RUN option isn't visible you can always goto
START > All Programs > Accessories
and select Command Prompt the follow steps 4 and 5

If you still cannot access your site you have 2 options:
  1. Wait 24 to 72 hours for your ISP to pick up the Changes
  2. Use OpenDNS.com to provide you with your preferred and alternate dns
